Youtube Stardom

So today I was thinking to myself, "Why am I doing videos?"  It's always been something I've loved to do but I was trying to clearly define what it was I am trying to accomplish with making videos.  I don't exactly want to be a movie director or an actor for my career so what is it that I want my videos to do?  Then it hit me.  I spend a lot of time on youtube researching tons of VFX to try and get ideas of cool things that I'd like to try.  I then realized, "This is it!  This is what I want to do."  I want to make videos every week to post on youtube and get my name out there.  I would love to be the next Freddie Wong or Julian Smith on youtube.  I find myself now thinking of cool FX to do for my videos as I ride my bike to school.  I think the thing that holds most people back is lack of tools and drive to actually get out there and do it.  I watch videos online and sometimes think to myself, "I can do better than them."  However, if I'm always hiding behind my computer and not getting behind the camera and actually filming something then I must be a hypocrite.  So, from now on, I will be making a video for my youtube channel (which you can go to right now by clicking here) every week for as long as I am able.

So fellow bloggers, what do you want to see?  Please leave your comments below and I will collaborate with you on some of your awesome ideas!  I guess every journey has its first step.  Here I am taking mine onto youtube stardom!

Burrito Grande

This past weekend I went back home to Utah.  It was a grand ole time with the parents and siblings.  I took the liberty to show them the latest pieces of work I have been fiddling around with.  My family has been making short videos ever since I was 8 years old.  It's been a passion of my older brother and he has always pulled me into his projects to help him.  If you want to check out his website you can do so by clicking here.  He has done amazing things by doing commercials for Spring Mobile and music videos for several famous people.  He is making a career out of it while I am doing small videos as sort of a hobby.

My dad and I got to talking about doing another visual effects practice video and we got the motivation to try and blow up my dad's car!  My dad has always been an awesome dad supporting us in whatever endeavor we've wanted to try.  Some dads won't even let their kids touch the family camcorder while my dad on the other hand encouraged us to use the family camcorder and be creative.  It really has spurned into a great family bonding experience.  My dad has a cool website all about being a dad.  You should go to it.  Click this.  Anyways, we took some time on Saturday evening to film this little scene.

My dad was a super good sport for letting me do this.  It was a good bonding time with my dad and I look forward to doing many more videos with him.  He has been writing a book about the lost dutchman mine in the superstition mountains in Arizona for several years now.  I think it would be cool to collaborate with him and make it into a movie or turn it into webisodes.

I shot this scene with my JVC Everio and edited it with Sony Vegas Pro 10.  If you have any questions about the special effects in this don't hesitate to comment below!

The Break Up

So the other day I just acquired the Action Essentials Pack 2 and saw some of the cool and amazing
things that I might be able to do with this sweet footage.  I first did a test video with just the front windshield of
my car to see if it could look like it got shot by a gun.  If you want to check it out, watch this practice footage
here.  However, I somehow convinced my wife to help me out with another practice video to test out more
visual effects. By no means is this Hollywood quality but it's what I can do in a day and a half.  So without
further ado here is "The Break Up".

As you can see I still have a ways to go before I am Steven Spielberg but it's a start.  I shot this on a JVC
Everio and edited with Sony Vegas Pro 10.  If you have any questions leave a comment below!
